Parnelli Jones piloted his #15 Mustang Boss 302 to a fifth and final victory of the season at Riverside International Raceway in California, winning the 1970 Trans-American series manufacturer's championship in the over-2-liter class. In doing so, Jones and team owner Bud Moore gave Ford its third series championship since the inaugural season of 1966.
The #15 Mustang Boss 302 was modified for racing by Kar Kraft in Brighton, Michigan. The car's V8 engine displaced 302 cubic-inches (5-liters) and produced around 450 horsepower. Power was sent to the rear axle through a Ford Toploader 4-speed transmission.
The 1970 season of the Trans-Am championship in the over-2-liter class marked the height of the Pony Car Wars and is highly regarded in American motorsports history, with every major American automobile manufacturer competing against one another: American Motors, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors.
