The 934 Turbo race car was built to comply with the FIA's Group 4 regulations for the 1976 season and was based on the production turbo road car. Only 31 examples were produced.
Racing modifications include a roll cage and structural reinforcements, a large front air dam which houses twin air-to-water intercoolers, wide front and rear fender flares to accommodate the large 16-inch BBS center-lock wheels, disc brakes and calipers from the 917 sports prototype race car, and a suspension benefiting from the addition of anti-roll bars and coil springs.
Powered by the 930/71 air-cooled, flat-six engine that displaces 3.0 liters and produces 485 horsepower and 434 foot-pounds of torque. Features include Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and a single turbocharger. Power is directed to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission.
Vasek Polak, the West Coast's premier dealer, tuner, and race team owner of nearly four decades prepared and campaigned the 934 featured here. Earning three pole positions and two victories in an eight-race season, his driver George Follmer piloted this car to win the 1976 Trans-Am series championship in the Category 2 class.
